Toshiba SD-M1212 DVD-Rom wont read SVCDs

When I put an SVCD into it.. the CD spins like crazy and explorer pretty much locks up until I hit escape.

I am running Windows 2000 and I believe the SVCD was burned with Nero [my friend made it]

Any suggestions on how to fix this?
