There's plenty of rebate deals @ Amazon right now and Amazon likely has the lowest price anyway. Go to the electronics section and click on special promotions/outlet at the upper left corner.

JumpOnDeals, you're welcome and thank you for this great thread! I love the bang for your buck you get with the Toshiba SD1600 although I wish this were the SD1200, if it were I'd be all over it.

Can you edit your original post again and include the $20 Toshiba rebate URL? Thanks again.

Just FYI, the Toshiba DVD player I bought last year quit working after 2 months. Started giving me "Disc Error" messages after playing a movie for awhile.. eventually it wouldn't even do that. I don't buy Toshiba anymore.

austonia,

That sucks, it sounds like you got a fluke or possibly did something to cause that error? Overall if you read the hundreds of posts on DVDTalk.com and HomeTheatreForums.com this DVD Player is probably praised and hailed as the best entry level DVD Player. My roommate has a Toshiba SD1200 and it has been going strong for over a year with more than 200 DVDs played in it.

Funny story about Toshiba. My family has owned three (cheap) Toshiba products, mostly stereo stuff that all broke in the 80's and 90's. I totally swore off Toshiba forever because we had 3 totally POS products.

Fast forward to summer 2000, I needed to buy a new 27" or 32" TV for my bedroom. My roommate bought a Toshiba 27" Cinema Series TV back in 1994 and it's still going strong. Then checked out various home theatre hardware web sites, magazine reviews (including Consumer Reports), and the smart sales people at my local A/V dealer (Home Video Library in Gresham, Oregon).

They all said that Toshiba TVs are considered one of the best, up there with Sony, JVC and Panasonic.

So to make a long story short you might want to give Toshiba another chance. If you are considering other DVD Players I would take a look at Sony and Panasonic.
