Ok so my buddy is using his Toshiba notebook and every so often (when being used) it will just shut down. We've tested the heat and the battery/power connections and they don't seem to be a problem. Also, it doesn't appear to be a software issue because a clean reformat doesn't solve the problem. Toshiba support seems to think it may be a heat issue, I'm not convinced.

Ideas?

Does it shutdown even when not using battery ? I have been using an old compaq lately. The battery is no good, but with the battery in the machine it will do the same thing as you describe. If I remove the battery, the notebook runs OK. Just a thought.
