toshiba satellite overheating

i have an older toshiba satellite (3-4 yrs) that runs great, but the fan gets quite noisy and if i do anything too processor-intensive, it overheats and shuts down.

i was just wondering if this is a common problem with these laptops and if anyone had ever replaced a fan in one. if so, is it hard to do? i'm not completely inept when it comes to working on laptops, but most of the ones i've taken apart were dells.

TIA

Try dusting it out first. Apparantly vacuuming works best, but if you're in college like me and don't have a vacuum, plain ol canned air works too.

Additionally, remove the memory modules, wipe them clean and reinsert.
