I just bought the above system and also bought a 90 watt power inverter to run the laptop in my truck. I guess the 90 watt inverter is not enough to power the laptop............and the sales-person who sold me the whole package also didn't know..............Is anyone familiar with the above system and could recommend a good inverter that would power this system??????????

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I may be wrong but if you multiply the volts by the amps you get the watts (i.e. 110 volts X 4 amps = 440 watts). I know my notebook power cord has an input of 110 volts and 2.4 amps = 264 watts. So to be on the safe side I got a 350 Watt DC to AC power inverter. I understand your confusion, as it says on the charger that the notebook uses (on mine) 18.5V and 4.9A which is about 90 Watts, you would assume you would only need a 90 watt power inverter. From what I have been reading (and from my experience) that is not the case. You need to find out what the input is for the power cord, not the output.

Hope this is helpful.

from that site...

72W continues power and 100W Max. power: works with input 11V~16V systems

if 90 isn't enough.. then 72 def won't be.

Do you really want to use an inverter to power an AC adaptor?

Probably the best way is to get a car-laptop power supply. The one linked above, looks ideal - and, if those figures are genuine, it should be plenty powerful enough. I don't know of any laptops that take more than 90W, and very few need over 60W.

Inverters often don't like powering modern switching AC adaptors - you may need to overrate the inverter by 50 - 100% in order for it to work reliably.
