i just got a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4666 on ebay for $150.
i wanted to know if the cpu can be upgraded.
specs: Intel® Pentium® dual-core processor T2080 1.73GHz, 1MB L2, 533MHz FSB
Mobile Intel® 943GML Express Chipset
i would really like to put a cpu in it that has more L2 and fsb. everything i found on the net says no, but i have not read anything that is recent.
if there are any other mods that you know of for this laptop let me know.
thanks for any info
ps it already has 2gigs of ram and i'm going to put a SSD in it.

I could be wrong but i think they only made the 2060 and 2080 in that line, if you already have the 2080 you'll be hard pressed to find a faster processor that will fit the laptop's fairly proprietary cooling system, if the chip is bigger or smaller it just wont work right (not that a little modding couldn't be done, but i'm not sure how far you would be willing to go with it).

Whatever might be necessary to get a different flavor of processor to fit properly and cool properly when installed in the machine. That is still only a concern if you can even find a processor that fits the socket and will post. Many laptops are very proprietary both in physical limitations but also the way in which the hardware interfaces with the other components, often they are only designed to even function with one of two or three processors.

i have a t2050 from another laptop that is dead. do you think this would be an upgrade for audio programs? because it has 2mb L2. i'm going to open up the laptop today to clean it out and i will take a look and see if i can find anything to get more info.

The chip may physically fit, but the t2050 will more than likely be more power hungry. I think that may be your only problem if it is going to have one. The t2050 uses double the wattage to operate.

i cleaned the fan and swapped the cpu for the t2050. see what happens...
its gce motherboard. i didnt see a model number on it. is this MB even capable of a cpu with a faster fsb?
if the t2050 does work, does this open the door for other cpus working?
thanks again for you help

The FSB of the T2050 and the T2080 are the same. 533MHz. This won't be an issue.

The motherboard of 99.999% of all laptops are static, there are no FSB options, no multiplier options, no voltage options, nothing. It will either work or it wont, and my bet is, if it needs more power it will either work and kill your battery faster than the T2080, or not work at all.
