I purchased the above model of toshiba notebook feb/2003. Its a great notebook with windows xp home edition sp1.
I got the cd for sp2 in the mail and before the install i decided to talk to the toshiba depot here in my city and was advised by the tech that there were real problems in trying to install the sp2 and get the computer up and running. namely that after an install computers would not boot, or if they did the screen would freeze and there were also modem problems. he said he had a room full of my model of computers in his service depot to have the program removed and in some cases the large corporations had their inhouse tech remove the program and there was still a problem getting the computer to operate like it did before sp2. the tech said there was a bios problem and that he had no advice from toshiba. he told me to phone them. i did that and they said that it was M$ software problem and to phone them. i did and they gave me a case number and said that there was a lot of problems with notebooks and sp2. they mentioned Dell and models like mine. Apparently some of the newer ones would install sp2 but it was not consistent, as my neighbor bought his 2 months ago and has had a nightmare.
i have posted in other forums and get no responses, just to sit and wait. i got a case number from M$ but i understand that there support for sp2 will be winding down and so what will i do then??? I tried posting at the toshiba peer to peer home site and got no responses there. i hope to hear comments from members here. Thx
