Hello All,

I just had a quick question. The Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870 looks great but I am a little worried about the weird screen resolution (1680x945). I would be using this laptop as a desktop replacement when I am out of town and I am a gamer. And in checking some of my games a home this resolution seems to not be standard. My question is if I set it to say 1680 x 1050 will it work and look great? Just wondering if anyone else has run in to this problem.

Thanks in Advance, Dan

If the screen is 1680x945, you cannot set it higher. 1680x1050 will not be displayable on that screen.

1680x945 is 16:9, and as such, they've probably billed it as an HD screen (though, not full 1080, which would be 1920 pixels across)

Ok so now I am a little lost....so what resolution could I display? Is it worth spending $1500 on this laptop? I guess what I am getting at is I want to be able to get the most screen real-state and I am not sure what that would be.

Thanks Again, Dan

From your original post, the maximum displayable resolution would be 1680x945 on the laptop's screen. You can of course have a higher resolution on an external monitor if you hooked one up to the laptop.

It's not a weird screen resolution - many screens these days are made at 16:9 resolution ratios. More HD content, etc; manufacturers want that content to be able to completely fill the screen, no black bars or stretching.

As for older stuff that might not be able to work with that resolution specifically, you can always do one of the following:
1) Set your game's resolution to below your maximum resolution and set the video card to maintain the aspect ratio but stretch it to the screen size; you'll have black bars probably on the side.
2) Add one of those modifications that let's you use a custom resolution.

Thank you, I have a handle on it now. It was a little confusing at first.
