Hi,

I own a Toshiba Portege R835 laptop for a year and a half, and experienced a pretty frustrating screen problem twice. I am willing to share my experience with this problem, so that whoever experiences the same problem will know what to do (don't worry, there is a happy end).

It began when my laptop fell on the floor (unfortunately it happens sometimes). I have to say that the fall wasn't too dramatic and from low height, but it made the screen become almost totally dark (only with a lot of effort I was able notice that it's still displaying image). It was impossible to continue working without plugging an external screen. Needless to say, no resets or other soft solutions helped, and it wasn't a software problem.

When it happened for the first time, about a year ago, I still had warranty, so the importer fixed the laptop and told me that the screen was broken. I have to say that I was a little surprised to find out that this well reviewed laptop had such a delicate screen.
Unfortunately for me, I accidentally dropped the laptop on the floor again a couple of months ago, turned it on fearfully and found out that the same problem occurred again. The screen was dark exactly like before. This time, without warranty, I knew I was going to pay a lot for a new screen to replace the broken one.

Then I watched this video, and a new idea came to me. I saw the delicate screen connector cable, that can be so easily (as shown in the video) plugged out. I decided to check if my screen is well plugged before proceeding to the lab, and found out that indeed, this was the entire issue! I'm pretty sure that this was the issue on the first time as well (and I've been told stories about a broken screen, just a reminder).
I guess that this plug is indeed a delicate component, and that every fall can disconnect it partly or fully.

So the message is: if you have this problem, save your money and time, open up the laptop a bit (first time for me, but was very easy with the video guidance), and first check that the plug is well connected.

Good Luck,
Guy.
