Think this is a software glitch? HDD seems to be working fine. Never had a problem with it.

You mean the reallocated sectors ?

Doubt it is a glitch, and yeah, I would be backing up all important stuff regularly.

What portable HDD model? I won one as a door prize at a meeting - Toshiba 1TB, USC 3, very compact, very slick. So far works perfectly, however - not S.M.A.R.T. enabled.

She's in the later stages of life broheim. I would just make sure there isn't any priceless non-replicated data on it.

This is the exact bundle I got from SAMs club this summer. Sometime in May or June.

Interesting. mine is the Canvio 1tb (2.5-in) usb3. i cloned it from a 3.5 sata drive and use It as a backup for all data. It works perfectly on laptop (win 7); desktop (win 7); and ddesktop (win 8.1. but, on usb 2 - i don't have 3 on any system yet.

Seems like many are having usb3 problems. can you connect it to a usb 2 port and see what happens?

Yes. My work laptop is USB3 (Thinkpad X230t), my home (thinkpad x220) laptop only has USB2.0 ports. It reads and writes fine on both. I notice the drive doesn't like to eject though.

My laptop is T510 Thinkpad. Eject? Never use it. From what you say, it seems the peoblem is with USB 3 in the X230T. Try this - Use a USB cable instead of the USB 3. That will force the X230T to use USB 2. That should isolate the problem.
