By all means, stay away from Magnavox (and Sharp and Zenith).

I like Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba (in that order) and now Toshiba to make Yield happy (and because I forgot I saw one on display and indeed it was purty :p)

shoulda just said Hitachi, your list would have been complete :)
I wasnt a fan for quite a while... but lately they prove to be fantastic TV's. I've seen plenty of good reviews on Hitachi HDTV's.

Of the brands you mention definitely Toshiba,
Are we talking about Direct View, Projo, Hi-Def or what?

JVC, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Hitachi all good!
Stay away from cheaper brands such as Orion/Apex, in the TV world low price = low quality

EDIT: forgot mitsubishi, good projo sets

Thanks for the input. I'm trying to decide between a 52" Pioneer television for $760 or a 36" flat screen Sony television for $500. I think I'm going to go for the Pioneer, since I already have a 36".

If you want image quality go for the sony

Where in the heck are you buying a 52" Pioneer for $760?

HD Capable? Rear Projection?

Heh. If I had the money, I'd buy both. I decided on the Pioneer, and it will be delivered to my house for $760 flat. It's a 52-inch Pioneer TV, 2002 model.

If anyone lives in SoCal and may be interested in the deal, PM me. I bought mine through a friend, and they're selling like hotcakes. Lots of different sizes and brands... I think they're floor models? Not quite sure, but I'll give you more info via PM.

Out of those 3:
Pioneer (Elite), Toshiba then Magnavox
My choices:
Loewe or Hitachi Ultra
