I've been using the above mentioned Toshiba cable modem now for approx. one year. For the last few months, it seems that the modem would "lock up" (e.g. the cable light is solid green still, but no Internet) from time to time. For a while, it would only happen once in a while which initially lead me to thinking that perhaps there was a problem with my ISP (Cox Communications). Everything was fine on the ISP end though, according to them. Generally the only times they have outtages are for maintenance which they usually warn about a day in advance through email notices. So needless to say, I was content with having to get up and reset the cable modem every so often.
But this last month or so, it seems that this problem would happen EVERY day - and it can't be the service. My friends who live nearby and are on the same access node never experience problems with their service "locking up", forcing a modem reset. Sometimes I have to actually reset the modem three or four times before it decides that any of my computers would actually get a signal. I am going through a Linksys Wireless-B router, which I know is not the culprit, because this problem even happens when the router is out of the picture and I have only one machine hooked up directly to the modem.
I think that Toshiba has a 5-year parts/labor warranty on their modems, but something tells me to go out and pick up a Motorola model (I've heard very little bad things about their modems).
Any thoughts?
