of being advertised as being able to read DVD RAM Discs.. I have a HS2 and record some pictures to the RAM from the HS2 and pop into the Toshiba M1712 Drive and nothing shows.. the DVD ROm keeps spinning and spinning and the MyComputer under Win2k just freeze up... What gives and it is so noisy that it is not even funny. 100x more louder than the Pioneer 106 anytime of the day.. I am going to RMA that sucker. Piece of junk...

The Toshiba is not junk. You just don't have the proper drivers installed. The DMR-HS2 makes UDF 2.0 discs. No Windows version ships with UDF 2.0 support. You need a 3rd party UDF 2.0 driver.

If you were to make a UDF 1.5 DVD-RAM disc, your Toshiba would read it just fine.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any UDF 2.0 drivers on the Toshiba website. The reason my M1512 works with UDF 2 is because I have Panasonic's UDF 2 drivers installed. I dunno if you can download it from their site, but you could try.

By the way, not all programs support the .vro format, which is what the DMR-HS2 uses.

DVD-RAM support in Windows does not include UDF 2, and Toshiba doesn't include those drivers with the drive. So there's nothing for Newegg to give you.
