Looks like the DT01ACA series might be retired in favor of the new P300 500GB/1/2/3TB drives. Physically, they seem identical but the warranty's been cut to two years from 3 :(

Would still take over a ST3000DM001 any day.

That was my general impression. I'm not at all sure, but I think the Ramp Load and Dual Stage Actuator (DSA) features might be new, But as far as I can tell, the other "features" listed here for the P300s are also incorporated in the DT01ACxxxs.

When I originally started that other thread, Newegg was offering a $20 gift card with the retail kit of the DT01AC300, but I waited too long and that deal ended. So now I'm back to pondering, this time between the PH3300U-1I72 and the MG03ACA300 for all of $5 more... As far as I can tell about that so far, you get another 2 years' warranty and even greater reliability, though not too surprisingly, I haven't found as many reviews of the MG03ACA300 as the DT01AC300/PH3300U-1I72.

PS: I just noticed you mentioned the DT01AC300 in your sig. I take it you've been satisfied with yours? How long have you been using it?

Yes, I've been pretty satisfied with it. It's quieter (the Seagate 2TB makes a low-pitched humming noise that goes through the case occasionally), has a lower HDTune latency and is 24/7 certified.

Ordered it a little over 2 months ago from an Australian store.

MG03ACA300 ALL the way. It's an entry-level enterprise drive, great find.
