basically im trying to restore a toshiba laptop and when i boot of the restore cd it says wrong machine! in dos. the cd is correct though because it has worked in the past. it had recent memory upgrade if that helps but i doubt it because even without memory it says same thing. any ideas? normally there is a serial in bios but i can't find it. any ideas?

I had that problem on my laptop, what i did was:
Pop in my windows vista install disk, install vista.
Reboot, and use restore disk.
I hope that helped.

uhhh what? it has nothing to do with operating system and im using windows xp

nevermind i got it. when you try to restore and kicks you out saying you have wrong machine, it drops you to A drive where you can type q:\base\os.bat which will launch the restore process. YOU MUST have a partition on the drive though otherwise you will get an a:\ error. that was my problem.
