I have been tasked with troubleshooting a Toshiba Dynabook 2110 note book. This machine does not have an internal CD/DVD-ROM or Floppy, nor can the current bios allow booting from USB device. The dynabook website is all in japanese so I can't find much on there useful.

This machine has XP/RedHat dual boot. It cannot boot into any of the OS's. I have an external DVD/CDRW drive, and an external floppy. What are the best tools to check the MBR and attempt to fix this? The machine recognizes the usb floppy, but not the cdrom(so i cant boot from cdrom as a USB device)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could get a copy of SpinRite 6 from www.grc.com

It will load from a USB floppy. It will determine if the MBR (and the rest of the partition) can be read and written to, but if the MBR is corrupted, it can't fix that.

Maybe someone else can help with fixing a corrupted MBR, if indeed that is the problem.
