I have a working laptop, loaded with Windows 98. However, all of the sudden, the laptop cannot boot with error message: Operasting System not found.
I tried to see what's wrong, and when I go to setup (during boot), I found out there is no hard drive listed. The content of the hard drive itself is not important, but there is no way I can even reinstall the OS in it.
What is your suggestion to fix this problem?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,

Is there an "IDE device detection" type option in the BIOS (I know laptop bioses are very limited!)? Is so you might want to try that first.

Is your HD removeable? Is it possible it may have been knocked loose? See if you have easy access to it (slides out for instance) and check cables are connected firmly. Sometimes you have to remove a panel on the bottom of your machine to do this.

It does not sound like an OS issue, since it is not detected by the bios.

Other than this I'm not sure. Maybe you should contact the laptop manufacturer about obtaining an RMA.

Good luck,

Andy
