Toshiba Laptop BIOS doesn't work with Vista

Installation of Vista Business RTM on my 2-year-old Toshiba laptop (Satellite M35X-S149) failed. I encountered a bluescreen right after the Vista Installer started up.

The message is that Windows stopped to avoid damage and that the BIOS is not fully ACPI-compliant. It advises contacting the PC manufacturer for a BIOS update. Interestingly, the laptop breezes through Microsoft's "Vista Upgrade Advisor" analysis. I guess Microsoft doesn't examine the BIOS in that test.

Ever hopeful, I updated to the very latest, 1.90 BIOS. It still fails with the same error. I see from Toshiba's Support site a bulletin from November (when Vista Enterprise was released) that they've issued a FEW Vista-compatible BIOS updates. But they have TONS of different laptops and mine isn't mentioned. Reading their Support Site, I get the impression that even the latest, "Vista Capable" models may have problems with Vista and will need to be updated. I don't know where that puts me, with a 2-year-old system with a BIOS that hasn't been touched since April of 2005. :(

"Toshiba is committed to making final production BIOS and various software components for Windows Vista available for our Vista Capable systems within the timeframe of the public launch of Windows Vista, scheduled for January 30, 2007."

Does anybody have any additional insight into Toshiba's BIOS problem? Toshiba HAS no email technical support, so I'm wondering if anybody else has had this problem with their Toshiba BIOS and if they've called Toshiba?

Thanks for any insight.
