Go to bestbuy.com, check out 1805-S204 here for $1100 - $200 rebates - $207 PM = $693 + tax & $15 shipping if you don't pickup in store. PM with Amex Blue to Yahoo store here. This lappy has Trident CyberAladdin-T 16M video (yuck), looks like a pretty good deal unless you want to do some serious 3D gaming. Only shows $50 rebate on laptop page but when you click on the rebates you actually get $150 from BB and $50 from Toshiba, BB's expires today.

Do you know something I don't, Zorro? From what I've heard so far Amex will PM damn near anybody. Please share if you have been denied a PM claim to a Yahoo store; I have one pending right now for the Fuji 2600 camera I bought so we'll see soon enough.

that is definitely a nice affordable laptop there. i dunno if i want to lug a 7 lb thing around though. damn textbooks heavy enough. but this is definitely a hot deal for $400 off the regular price. that is a savings of over 30%.

I placed an order on bestbuy.com on 24th, but it was backordered. I still haven't received this laptop. My question is:

1) Will my best buy rebate be honored as the order was placed before the deadline?
2) Will I be able to AMEX pricematch it to the price on Dec 24 now that the yahoo store has raised the price to $1049?

If the answer is no to either of the above then please reply, as I may have to cancel the order, it is not too hot any more then :(

RE: Mobile Celerons.....

FYI:The XBOX is based on a mobile 733 Celery so they must make a mobile celeron chip.

For anyone who bought one of the Toshiba 1805-s204 laptops with the Trident CyberBlade XP Ai1 video (this model has been in several hot deals threads since Nov 2001) I tried the Windows XP video driver from the Trident web site. The site says not to use the drivers on laptops and that you should only use the drivers from the laptop maker but I tried them anyway... The reason for using the Trident drivers instead of the Toshiba ones is that the Toshiba ones don't support OpenGL (Most OpenGL games won't even start using the Toshiba drivers).

My results so far: Driver installed fine and computer has been running fine for several hours. Tried Soldier of Fortune and Serious Sam and they both work now (both refused to start when I tried running them using the Toshiba driver). Games don't run real fast so you will need to turn the settings down to get any playable speed out of them. So, not a perfect solution but at least OpenGL works now using the Trident drivers. Hopefully Toshiba will release their own faster drivers some day...

PS. I haven't tested the TV/Video out yet with these drivers so use at your own risk...
