Toshiba L505D-S5965

I have a mint condition Toshiba L505D-S5965 with Wifi, webcam, mike...everything and its to good of shape to give up on but its dead'r n a doornail...

its just quit working one day, and has no lights for power or battery or activity when you plug in the adapter, and I am "fairly sure" but not positive that the adapter is okay (prongs spark when I plug it into the laptop THEN plug it into the power outlet).

I've researched the sites that advertise laptop repair, but they seem a joke. $85-$110 just to diagnose it, then I priced motherboards just out of curiosity. So I know what I am up against.

I'm not sure if I might be pushing forum rules here, but is anyone hip hop on laptops, can you repair them with a past history of skill and educated experience?

Do you know any tips or tricks to try so I can tell what's wrong with it to start off with?

Do you know of anywhere I can economically justify sending this too, I pay shipping both ways if needed?

Please help as this is an awful expensive paperweight at present.

A deep hearted thank you for everyone who takes the time and patience to try to help me resurrect this laptop. It's only about 2-3 years old and worth to much just trashing it out for parts.

Could be the AC adapter, power jack or motherboard.

Look at the AC adapter closely to see if the cable and power cord are worn, cut or disfigured.

Hook up the adapter and wiggle the cables slowly to see if you can get the charging light to come on. One of the wires inside the sheathing could be broken.

Take the battery out and just try the AC adapter.

Look closely at the power jack in the housing to see if it is damaged or worn.

Buy a replacement AC adapter and power cord.

Replace the power jack. This model uses a wiring harness vs soldered on the motherboard.

If you get this far without fixing it then it's probably the motherboard.

for the very prompt reply and all the tips...I'll get these parts and try the fixes and will be sure to return a post as to the results

thanks again
