As surprising and ironic as it may sound, I've decided to enter the format war... just when I was saying that I'll wait until a winner is declared.

I am a proud owner of a brand-new Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player (I took the player and 3 HD-DVD titles for $199)

I am now considering my options in terms of media. While the upscaling is excellent, and I can definitely re-enjoy my DVD collection in much better quality than before, I am nevertheless eager to explore alternative avenues.

I understand that, although it is region-free, the player will not read European DVDs (bummer!) So, I am curious about a couple of other things...

1) Can this machine play divx, xvid and other .avi files?
2) Has anyone found any use for those extension ports under the front panel, which look suspiciously like USB ports?
3) Is there a good online user community for this player?
4) Can you play the new formats that are becoming popular among online traders, like "(film name) Proper Bluray VC1 720p 5.1 WMV-IGUANA" [720p (1280×528), VC-1, 8698 kbps], or "(film name) 720p HDDVD DTS x264-HEiT" [720p (1280×528), x264, 6586 kbps] ?

I find these to be really interesting questions, I hope some of you already know the answers...

For those who are just looking for an excuse for trolling, please move along... I don't care to discuss the format war, and I have ZERO interest in debating the downloading of digital audio and video files off the 'net, so don't exert yourselves with reactions like "Z0MG, you are teh pirat3 !!!11!!"

Thank you!
