Prison Break and Twin Peaks, both NON-HD DVDs, look absolutely phenomenal on this player on an HD TV due to upconverting. I'm sure many other DVDs look good too.
My most annoying problem with this player is that if I do not completely finish a movie, and wind up turning off my TV and doing something else for a little while, the player goes into "HDMI Error" mode and requires a complete power cycle to reboot and then you have to find your way to where you stopped. I am not used to this behavior and it's majorly annoying. I'm not sure if this is a firmware bug or an HDMI 'feature' as part of the standard. It does these even on non-HD movies and shows.

[ When i switch signals, i get the hdmi error too, but does not require a full restart. It is annoying to have to find yer place again, though.

I am excited to receive my HD-A1, but I wanted to see some more feedback from you guys. I am coming from an Oppo 971H so I am not sure what to expect, however my expectations are very high. I did not like the Oppo's black levels or the audio-sync issues.

PaulNEPats,
How long have you been waiting and did they bill your credit card?

Can you explain? Does it recover automatically? Maybe I'm being impatient? Does it take 41 seconds? Are you hitting pLAY?

Oh and I get "HDMI error" on this brand new DVD if I turn my TV off when I pause in the middle of an ep. I think it's a firmware issue personally. Annoying.

What if your receiver doesn't have TrueHD formats available? Will it still make a difference on Pro Logic IIx or DD EX?

All the advanced codecs are decoded within the player. No receiver out can decode DD+ or TrueHD at this moment. Say you're connected via HDMI. Goto Setup and change the audio output under HDMI to "PCM." The player will do all the work and send it out via PCM to the receiver which simply forwards it onto the speakers.
