Gotta find a little bit more research on battery life, but I'm almost certain I'm going to order from CompUSA today.

CompUSA has it for $599 after $20 MIR. But get this. You ALSO get FOR FREE a CompactFlash 802.11b card and a 64MB CompactFlash memory card.

Regular Retail Price: $739.95
-$39.98 Bundle Instant Savings
-$79.98 Instant Saving

You Pay: $619.99 Price after instant rebates, if any
-$20.00 Bundle Mail-In Rebate

CompUSA Price: $599.99 Price after instant & mail-in rebates

Best yet, it has 64MB RAM, 400MHz X-Scale and a WHOPPING 4" screen. I looked at it today at CompUSA and it was bright and beautiful. It also has dual slots (CF & SD/MMC).

I'm gonna hawk my Audiovox Maestro on eBay along with the 802.11b CompactFlash card I just got from Circuit City...the one that comes with the 550g is more power efficient and is CF Type-I vs CF Type-II for the one I have now...it also isn't as bulky. I'm also going to throw in my CF/SM USB reader in the deal. So I should be able to clear about $320 - $350 on that stuff. Plus, I have about $120 in rebates coming my way (very soon) from various other Hot Deals :D

Here's the CompUSA product link:

:D

Why am I here?

LOL.

The thing that sold me was the screen. I had my eyes set on the e740 for $550 at Amazon but after seeing the e550G today at CompUSA I fell in love with the screen.

It's 4" compared to 3.8" for the iPAQ 3800/3900 and 3.5" for every other PocketPC2002 device. The difference is like night and day.

What's the point of buying a PDA that costs as much as a high end AMD system?

PDAs are supposed to be used to organize your life on the road, let you write email, and do things like that.

My $120 Palm would be just as useful as the $700 jobber you are getting there.

Who wants to watch movies or play computergames on a screen like that anyway? If it's games you want get a $60 GBA, mp3s get a $150 portable mp3 player.

If you don't get it, then that's you...And BTW, it costs $600 and comes with a free Wireless 802.11b WiFi card and a free 64MB CompactFlash card. That alone is worth over $100.

And my out of pocket costs will be around $250 once I sell all my old equipment.

I use my PDA for just about everything when I'm on the go. I shouldn't have to explain myself b/c it is MY money, but I will.

I use my PDA for wireless 802.11b in various locations at home and at work
I play MP3's, RM, WMA, MPEG, DIVX, ASF, AVI, etc. (with PocketTV, PocketDIVX, RealPlayer One, & Windows Media Player)
I use it to read Adobe files
Keep track of my accounts with Money 2002
I use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software (comes in handy in class with powerpoint slides)
I use Avantgo and Mazingo for offline webpage browsing
I use 802.11b for wireless surfing with Pocket Internet Explorer
I use Telnet and FTP programs to access my campus accounts
I use Macromedia flash for flash programs
I use PocketStreets 2002 and have maps of ever major city in the US on my memory card
I play all my games (ZioGolf2, Turjah II, SimCity 2000, Snails, Argentum, Tennis Addict, plus all my NES ROMS with PocketNES)
I use Terminal Services to remotely control my desktop from anywhere
I use Unit converter for what else....unit conversion
I use Resco Zipper for my zip files
I use Resco Explorer and Picture Viewer for obvious reasons
I use NYDITOT to rotate my screen in landscape and use resolutions like 360x480, 640x480 etc.

I also use it for a lot more. It's my PC away from my PC. I really don't care what you can do with your $120 Palm + whatever else you have to lug around b/c I can do everything and more with my one device.

I'd much rather spend that kind of money on a Handspring Treo (phone/PDA in one)... the 270 model if you don't have Sprint and the 300 model if you do.

It runs on Palm OS though... but cheaper and looks better in my opinion.

Well, that's you. I have no use for the PalmOS. It just isn't robust enough.

Relax dude. It was my opinion and that's what these boards are for. I wasn't asking you to do what I suggested.

I know...I was just stating that what you do is not for me :D

Besides, I have $$$ invested in PocketPC apps, games, and hardware. I'm not about to blow it all away.

I have a D-Link DWL-120 USB 802.11b device for my desktop and I use 802.11b Ad-Hoc for connectivity. It's is flippin' awesome b/c I have access to all 3GB of my MP3s and all of the files on my computer from my PDA. I can stream MP3's wireless without any skips or distortion.

And I just placed my order. WOOHOO :D

Nah he won't succumb to the dreaded RossMAN Syndrome, he's got discipline.

But my Accord kicks ass over his Camry :D

Actually, I'm very frugal with my money. I don't buy anything that I don't have cash to cover it with.

Someday I'll learn that lesson probably when ALL my cc's have been max'd out and my checking and savings balances are at 0. Until then, let's order some laptops!

j/k

Fortunately buying a $17k Honda Accord has made me realize I can't keep buying toys left and right "just because it's a good deal", that's how I ended up with 300+ still shrink wrapped DVDs.

:D

The Toshiba e310 and Asus myPAL are that size.
