I think Pentium dual-core = Core Duo? If I remember correctly the Core 2 Duo processors are a little more efficient, but the Pentium Dual Cores are certainly an improvement over the Celerons without SpeedStep.

nope but thats what they would like you to think.

it goes pentium dual core

20% faster is CORE DUO

20% faster than CORE DUO is CORE 2 DUO

but a pentium dual core is still plenty fast for most everything.

a Core 2 Duo is a 1066 FSB Conroe or Allendale with 4 or 2 MB of L2 cache

a Core Duo is a 800 FSB Allendale with 2 MB of L2 cache

a "Pentium dual core" is an 800 FSB Allendale with 1 MB of L2 cache.

am i missing something on the downside?

....its a Toshiba.

isn't that a good thing?

Considering they have some of the least reliable laptops (according to magazine ratings and even my work experience)....No.

Not in my experience. I've had three Toshiba laptops (Tecra, Sat Pro, and Satellite) over the past 10 years and they all were stellar. A couple of things about laptops:

1. Expect a battery change every 2-3 years (just the nature of most batteries)

2. Hard drives can fail more frequently because cooling is generally inferior. Make sure to get a drive with good bearings. Nice thing is that hard drives are cheap.

Nice price, and another stellar post from Allisolm
