Looking at this 3TB model to potentially pull the drive out, but wondering if it has an actual SATA connector or if it's a soldered on USB connector. Anyone know?
Thanks guys. I know Toshiba makes a 3TB SATA drive but I only see one vendor with it listed (some Mac shop), and price is pretty high. Also not sure if they really have them.
I was also looking at the Seagate 4TB STDR4000100. Older Amazon reviews indicate there are 2x 2TB drives inside, but a few newer reviews say there is a single 15mm drive inside. At least one also implies that it has an SATA connector (he tried to install in his MacBook but the drive was too thick).
Very tempted to pick one up and open it up.... I may...
I've yet to get a Seagate with a USB only interface, but it is entirely possible that this is a new Seagate branded Samsung with USB only. I imagine that it will be just a matter of time before I get one of these in for recovery.
4TB SATA baby! Picked up a STDR4000100 from Best Buy today. Popped the cover off and there's a 4TB SATA Samsung ST4000LM016 in there. Hoping to install it in my new TiVo Bolt later today. Fingers crossed!
Model number aside, the Seagate 4TB enclosure named "Fast" designates 2x 2TB striped. Glad to hear the 4TB drive is still SATA but too bad 15mm will not fit my existing 2.5" hotswap module (although the 3.5" can accept them).
