Toshiba C655-S5049 laptop motherboard replacement

My motherboard recently shorted out on my Toshiba, and I recently replaced it. The old motherboard, when I plugged it in, the power light wouldn't turn on and I'd hear a faint clicking noise coming from the motherboard. It might have been the processor, or it might have just been one of the chips. I couldn't exactly pinpoint the noise.

So I bought a new one. I wired it up correctly, and plugged it in, and the power light came on. It even booted up when I pressed the power on button. However, the screen doesn't come on. When I initially turn it on, the screen turns on for a brief moment, not even a second, and then turns off again. I tried plugging in the keyboard as well, but it also isn't getting power (caps lock light not coming on, etc.) I don't hear anything from the hard drive, so I'm not sure if that's an issue either, but the fan runs just like it always has. On when I turn it on, off for a while, and when it gets to where it should be booting the OS, it turns on again and runs for a while.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I have two, so if anybody here could locate the problem, I could switch parts or something. Please help out, thanks!
