Toshiba A25 vs Dell 5150 - which would u choose???

I am looking at these two models.. the 5150 is a p4 3ghz and the toshiba a25 is a 2.7 ghz. They are both simiilar in price point.

Which would u choose? I've had experience with Toshibas and always thought of them as stable machines. I work at a software company and majority of the usage will be business oriented. I will be running sql server, maybe oracle as well. Mainly running ERP business applications. Just need about 512 MB ram and I'll be fine.

Which would you go with? Thanks..

I would go with the Dell. They are both about equal in size so that is a non factor. Where the Dell has the advantage is in performance. The machine includes a faster processor with P4-M @ 3.06 vs. P4-M @ 2.8. Not a big difference but a difference none the less. The 5150 has PC2700 memory vs. PC2100 for the A20 memory so it has a speed advantage here as well. I'm actually surprised to see the Toshiba @ only 2100. You can also upgrade the Dell to 2GB of RAM if you so choose in the future. The Toshiba is limited to 1 GB. This may or may not be a big deal to you. The other factor Dell has an advantage on is battery life. The Toshiba life rated at 3.18 hours using Winstone. The Dell is rated at right at 5 hours playing a DVD in a continuous loop according to Laptop magazine. These aren't the same tests but it does demonstrate that the Dell has a superior battery life, by how much I'm not too sure. Overall the Dell is a superior machine at the same price point.

Thanks for the reassurance.. I actually ended up ordering the dell. It came to around $1450 shipped. I chose to get 1 256MB module instead of 2, so I can just buy 1 memory stick and be able to upgrade instead since it only has 2 memory slots. That cost me $50 to do that - I also chose the wireless option for b/g as well, and that was another $49. So another $100 for the upgrade, but overall $1450 shipped.. hope the quality is good since I'll be using this primarily for business apps while traveling.. 🙂

Neither Both are Far to large. I would suggest you get the IBM T41 with the Pentium M 1.7 GHZ and 512 MB of PC2700 Memory. This is plenty fast, and it s much lighter than eithier of the A25 and 5150. It also has an amazingly long battery life. You can get it for only $3000 shiped. A Great Price.
