That's really not a bad deal. The Core Solo is plenty fast, will smoke your P4 2.8, and you can upgrade to a Core Duo yourself if you want.

How long ago did you buy your laptop & service plan? See the trick with BBY plans is they used to be based on the level of technology you bought. So if you bought a top of the line machine in 2003, you get a top of the line machine in 2006. Price also factored into it, it was a pretty big gray area. Now all the service plans just screw you. If you have your original receipt that shows your purchase price of your original laptop and it is more than this $800 bargain basement machine, get them to give you up to that value. Don't take no for an answer. Get the store's General Manager involved, if he doesn't want to help, get his District Manager's name & phone number. Then go to BBY Corporate.

I used to like BBY's service plans because they were actually a good value and did what they were supposed to; not anymore.

I got my laptop in 2003. It was a replacement to another BB brand (the something something Matrix). Like you said, the service plan used to be so great that I was able to get the top-of-the-line VAIO as a replacement. But right now, no matter how many times I call the customer Relations, customer care, service center, geek squad, no one seems to want to help me with anything.

I used to work there. Complain and bitch up the tree until you get someone who will listen.

Walk into the store. Explain that when you bought the service plan you were told that it operated a certain way. Say they cannot change that on you, otherwise you would have gotten a refund for the service plan. If they don't want to give you want you want within 20 minutes (including getting the GM), get the district manager's name & number, call the DM right there. If he's not there, explain you will be back once you have contacted the DM.

hmm, it's too late now. I got the Sony VAIO as a replacement. And again, I don't like the computer guys and most of the Geek Squad people at Best Buy. They don't listen! Everyone tells me a different story! Also, I already called the Best Buy corporate last Friday when I filed a complaint with them...I think they were the corporate. But the people I talked to were the Customer Relations and Customer Care representatives.

But fbrdphreak, if I already took the replacement, do I still have any chance of getting a refund/store credit?

You could bring it back and say it doesn't meet your needs like the old laptop did or something. But its a lot harder now

I think I'll just try and sell it. Thanks for your help though!

File a better buisness Burea complaint to the corporate office. That will make a lawyer from corporate call the store and resolve the situation.

That's a great idea! I was going to send a letter to the Best Buy Corporate to complain, but I think the BBB would be more effective!

Thanks!
