I have been shopping the HM195 series, many places with nice prices due to problems with the bulbs popping after just a few months. Toshiba came up with a different replacement bulb, but its too soon to guess just how fixed the problem is. If you order one to have it shipped, you may want to check around locally to see if anybody has the $500 stand on clearance. This isn't in many top lists, but it is a nice looking unit and a great value as long as the bulb issue is really fixed. Anybody know what shipping is like yet?

OK, there's large, there's big, and then there's obnoxious. Unless you have a 50'x50' room, I think that would fall in the obnoxious category.

Guys,

Does anyone or knows someone who has a 1080P TV that can varify this for me? I want to know if I can get/use this resolution (1920 X 1080) for my PC/Workstation. If not, what is the max resolution I can get on a 1080P TV for PCs?

Thanks.

I have 62HM95 that had the same problem bulb in it. The bulb went dim at 828 hours of use and blew completely about 8 hours of viewing after that. I called Toshiba as soon as it went dim since that is one of the well known signs that it is about to go and they sent me a new bulb at no charge. I was really only down for 1 day from the time the bulb popped until the replacement arrived. The replacement is still going strong with no problem so I assume they have solved the problem. I was looking at that set back when I bought mine and would have loved to have been able to get it at that price. They were running over 1k more back in late January.

Great buy, but I am not surprised. Anything that is not flat (as in PDP and LCD - to 6" thick) will be dropping in price as LCD's & PDP's come on down in price.

I have a Samsung 50" 1080p TV. I have hooked it up to my PC and it looks great. My TV has the VGA and audio input on the back so it makes it nice. oh ya, and yes it runs it in 1080 resolution. Even loaded up battlefield 2 on there, no lag, amazing picture.

You only need to be ~13' away from 100" 16x9 for a good 30 degree viewing angle.

Here's a nice little calculator for this type of thing.

Hell with the viewing angle. You still have a 6'+ long giant box sitting against a wall somewhere.

:disgust:

Whatever, mang. My dad bought something around this size, LCD projection. Not because he wanted one, but because anything else would have just looked stupid in the space. Some people who have bigger houses don't mind something that big.

In the thread about this model on AVSforum one of the HTPC guys said he uses it at 1920x1080, which I think is the native resolution, but they get it via some mirror that wiggles in front of a 960x1080 DLP chip (many sets do this).

There are three models all at similar discount prices, 56", 62", and this 72", plus this years model the HM196 around $700 more last I checked.

Toshiba says not to use a PC I think with this model, but I don't think it was for a good reason, maybe just to push the MX line. Some HD sets do have HORRIBLE processing delays, as much as 15 to 20 video frames which makes some games impossible to play. Some sets have a game mode that turns off most or all of the enhancements, but I haven't seen a good answer for how it works with this model.

I am very tempted, but have to make a space first, and I still have a few unanswered questions, top of which is if I would not be better using normal SD DVD source material to go with a much cheaper still 720P display. Some of the 1080p displays I have seen playing SD look like hell.

Thank you. People always say stuff like the TV will be too big. Little do they realize that there is an ideal distance to be and it isn't that far. A rough calculation for a 1080i or 1080p signal is simply 2.5x the height of the screen (if you need to do it at the store).

For 72" the viewing distance is approx. 9 feet so most people will take this home and still be too far.
