Toshiba 6X DVD rom in new P4 system: Plays DVD audio, but not video.

I just built a P4 1.8A system on an Abit TH7II Raid board. Has geforce 3 ti 500 by visiontek. The toshiba drive works, but with DVD players it only will play the audio tracks. The video isn't displayed. I've tried creative's soft dvd player and intervideo's winDVD, but both have the same problem. THe weird thing is that with some discs, like The Big Lebowski, it plays the intro and goes to the widescreen, non-widescreen menu, and then after selection the movie plays with no video but with sound. Other discs simply play sound alone. Also, with the creative player, when I hit stop, I sometimes see the very last frame of the video appear for a split second before it dissappears.

Has anyone had a similar problem before? Any pointers on what the problem may be? Thanks

Someone, anyone. Seriously, I don't have a clue how to fix this. I've gone to toshiba's website, which says it should just use windows drivers, so that's not the issue. I'm thinking it might be a video card or mobo issue or setting that I need to change, but I'm not sure at all.

You running Win2k or XP ?

Did you install an ASPI layer?

using win98, what's an ASPI layer? How do I install it?

nevermind, it's got nothing to do with the aspi layer, but I still haven't fixed the problem.
