Toshiba 6TB external desktop HDD $169.99 @ Newegg

Cheaper than the Seagate 6TB drive ($200), and no interest? Isn't Toshiba's 3.5" drive line ex-Hitachi? At least, that's what they say about the 2TB and 3TB models.

Edit: One of the reviews of the 5TB model external at Newegg mentions that, the firmware causes lots of head-parks with EXT3 / EXT4 filesystems in Linux. But they weren't entirely clear if that was the enclosure firmware, or the drive firmware, or if they had shucked the drive.

Decent price but the Seagate drive is 100% sure to work properly while it's unclear if this unit can be shucked.

TigerDirect had the Seagate 6TB unit for $170 and they don't charge sales tax for CA users. You also don't get the BofA discount with Newegg.

Why would this have nearly 800 reviews at Amazon, and zero at Newegg? I give Newegg reviews a lot more credibility than Amazon, since the buyers are usually more tech savvy. You always get a few one-star reviews at Amazon complaining that it says 3GB, but it was actually only 2.7.

ETA: on further review, I forgot that Amazon combines the reviews for all sizes of the same basic model together, so most of them are for smaller sizes. Another reason to discount Amazon reviews.
