I can say that the Toshiba HDTV's don't have the same crispness as the Sony's for CRT based TV's. I have observed both and have tried to adjust settings and such. The toshiba always has a somewhat blurry look to it with HDTV material where the Sony was very sharp. This was not due to incorrect out of box settings.

The Sony is quite a bit more expensive, its up to you if its worth the difference. Might wanna go check it out.

BTW: For the most part I hate Sony, so this is by no means biased

I'm actually looking at the same set. The size and price are perfect for what I'm looking for, but I've read some reviews that say its not a true Toshiba and to stay away from it. Anyone have any experience with this, or any of the new Toshiba sets?

Not worth it for $855, I would hold out till the holidays for an LCD. Should be able to get a 32 inch Lcd at that time.

Orion :(

Guess I'll look at another set. The Toshiba looked great on paper, it was a perfect fit for my entertainment center.

Too bad the quality will be worse than that of most new HD-CRTs.

I can comment on this TV personally, since my parents just got one since it fit our new entertainment center perfectly. So far, it has worked quite well and HD looks incredible.

how do SD channels look on it? I will be getting some HD, but still watch some SD content.

Also looking at some reviews they say the black levels are off and it has a white glow sometimes. Have you experienced any of these?

Whatever TV I get will be a upgrade from a 12 year old 27 inch RCA. I would like to get a 34 inch set, but most of them don't fit in my entertainment center. Would going from a 27 inch 4:3 set to a 30 inch 16:9 be much difference in size? I know 4:3 content will be smaller, but it would look better on my DVDs, and I could get HD content.

The SD we watch is through our digital cable, and it looks pretty good. I was thinking about trying the regular analog cable through the coax-in on the TV, just to test out the comb-filter.

The black level could be better on most TVs, and I never noticed any problem. I adjusted the settings according to what a few guys said on avsforum. It looks good. The glow that people have noticed is only when watching 1080i through our scientific atlanta 8300HD box.

A 30" 16:9 tv is about equal to a 24.5 inch 4:3 TV, when viewing 4:3 material.

Thanks... I've also looked at some Projection TVs, but I'm not sure that they want be to big.

The room this is going in is sort of small. Its 10 by 13. What would be a good size 16:9 set for a room this size? I don't want something to big, but would like something bigger than my 27 inch 4:3. This TV will also be used for some light gaming (XBox/Gamecube), and I don't want to have to worry about burn in.

I was thinking that a 34 would be about as big as I should go (thats why I wasn't very sure on the projection sets), but not many of the sets fit in the entertainment center I would be using. Any suggestions for a good 30" 16:9 HDTV? I'll be using it with Dish Network so I will add the HD package. I doubt I can get the Voom package from Dish though, because of line of sight issues. I have some huge trees blocking the area where the dish would need to point.

I think the LG 30" for 899 is a far better deal. I sat and played around with the HT-CRTs a few days ago, tweaking them in the Best Buy, and I got the best picture out of the LG, and it looks the most stylish. Also has hookups galore.

It's $650 employee cost, if you know anyone who works there.
