Damn this thing is looking good for a cheap small thin laptop. I only need a cheap small one so I can surf the net and stuff using my wireless ethernet. What do you guys think? Memory upgrade and wireless card will be needed, so it'll probably bring my total price to around $700? Worth it at all?

I have some Thinkpads that use EDO memory and a 64mb chip is often over $100 used on eGay, and it is often propriatary memory so be careful to get exactly what you need. Just a thought.

It uses a 300 MHz Pentium MMX? Don't think those were ever made. Could this be a mobile PII 300?

Only 10" display and no Cd or DVD drive, would be hot if it was bigger screen with a drive in it!

Don't care for Hi Tech. Ordered a heatsink and fan several months ago and it took forever to arrive, then not as advertised!

Portege 3020 is a nice lappy from 2 years ago or so. If it's factory refurbished and you want 1 year warranty, you can buy additional warranty ($99 I think) through Toshiba, under its SelectServ program.

Btw, it was nice to receive the gift card from that floppy disk controller lawsuit. Some people even got more than this lappy's price :).

Just checked the cost of a 64 meg RAM chip for this laptop at crucial.com... $292.50!!!! that's over half the cost of the laptop itself!! unless you seriously plan on doing nothing more than word processing and light internet surfing.... I'd wait for another wal-mart laptop to come along. :)

WTF, they changed it. Looks like the same model, but more ram... but damn, that's not really that hot of a price no more...

KarsinTheHutt, read the post up above yours...

The original was at $499, and included only 32mb of ram. This new one, at $699 includes an extra 64mb of ram... almost in line with how much the ram would have cost if bought separately ($300 at crucial?). In addition, I'm not sure if the original had 10/100, but this one has it listed.
