Scuse me? Can someone confirm this or end my nightmare and just tell me how I'm screwing this up please?

Under win2k, using powerdvd 2.55 I can only play about the first 35 min of any movie. After that I get an error telling me the disk might be damaged, and I get dumped to the desktop. Using windvd2k some movies play fine, others (ie. the matrix) won't even start. The player window greys out for a sec, spins up the movie, and dumps me back to the controls. Nothing happens.

I just did a crappy install of 98 real fast to test my drive. Works FLAWLESSLY with powerdvd. Did not test windvd, couldn't take any more win98.

Can someone please explain this to me? I have done several clean installs of win2k, so this is NOT the problem. Obviously the drive isn't either. Does this drive really NOT do software decoding under win2k?

thanks as always!
(IM LOSING MY MIND!)

Are you sure? I don't know anyone else here running 2k to try throwing it in their box, but both in one of my roomate's computer, and my own. It runs FINE in 98, then as stated above in win2k. WTF!

Does anything work?

thanks again

i had a goldstar drive do something like that before. played like the first 5 minutes and it'd lock up. Tried a panasonic and it'd lock up immediately. It was in an HP system and well everything worked on it except that. So we took it back to the factory and the engineers there said it was the motherboard. We swapped out the board and it was fine. that one didnt work in 98 though, but i guess its something to try. Maybe you should disable dma in win2k also.

thanks again.

i use windvd, runs fine with win2K.
Well not sure if it runs ALL DVDs, since I only
have several DVDs title, and they are all run
fine.

I probably should mention that I am using Pioneer 16x slot.
