There's less risk in using it than kazaa, but there's still risk of d/ling something that has a virus. Anyways, you d/l a bittorrent client (azureus is one client). Then you go out and find a torrent to download. it's basically a file that you open up with your torrent client, and it downloads the file advertised in the torrent from other users, and you upload it to users at the same time. That's the gist of it all.

oh jesus christ

any google search (hell a half decent search HERE) will teach you how to use BitTorrent to break all the copywrite laws you want

If you're worried about safety, do things legally and purchase legitimate copies instead.

And that's the other side of the fence about using bittorrent.

I use bittornado because it lets me be a leach which somewhat protects me from being the evil uploader w/o punishing me.

I think I overdosed

Anyway, it's called constructive criticism. Take what I've told you and learn how to better yourself with it. ;)

Advanced Search > torrent will find eleventy billion threads on this.

how safe is it?
Depends on what laws you intend to break. HBO has started trying to stop people from stealing its shows, but the free networks have been turning a blind eye so far.

MPAA and RIAA have been shutting down sites and collecting tracking logs, so you could be sued for stealing from their members.

Any kind of warez, have fun with the adware, spyware and trojans.

I assume ethics aren't a problem for you, so you're safe there.

technical question about viruses/trojans in BT downloads... if BT is about grabbing small pieces from different people... how is it possible that a virus can live in that particular piece ? And how would it be executed if you've got all these different pieces from so many different people ? What if only 50% of the pieces you grab were infected... how does that become an executable virus/trojan ?

The way I see it, it's really only possible if the original single seed had the virus... no ? The chances of that, especially in private sites, are miniscule.

yes certian stations haver started to crack down, HBO mainily over Rome and some of its other exclusives, things on network TV pretty much are fair game as they dont yet seem to care
Movies has ALWAYS been iffy, if the MPAA doesnt get you then your Internet Provider might, music is the same way but safer then movies,

ive never seen a spyware/trojan infested warez torrent - you are obviously getting them from the wrong place

and if you use a priviate tracker you have basically nothing to worry about

Private trackers are the way to go. The problem is that some are movies only oriented, others only allow music so you have to keep your ratio up on all of them but it's a lot safer than downloading a movie that's still in theaters from torrent spy.
