Hi sealy :)

The last time I was in Toronto we ate here, but you are probably looking for something more than that. :p

The Royal York should have a nice lounge. I've also eaten at the top of the CN tower and they have a really nice prime rib up there.

What are you after? If you want steak, Barbarian is about 2 blocks from the hard rock that mosh posted. In fact, that entire street that the barbarian is on has incredible restaurants! I've been to most of them.

I work not far from there and know most of the places around here (I think I spend a small fortune on lunch).

What kinda food are you looking for?

Indian? Try Little India on Queen just west of University, or Ghandi's on Queen, just east of Bathurst.
Poutine? I'm heading to Smoke's Poutinerie on Adelaide, just west of University
Burritos? Try Burrito Banditos, Peter street, between richmond and queen
Carribean? Go to Ackee Tree on Queen and Spadina
Dim Sum? Bright Pearl or Row San, on Spadina between Dundas and College.
Some asian? Queen Mother on Queen, west of university.
Good ribs? Baton Rouge on front and john.
etc...

Go to King St. and University Ave. area, then head west to John. Assload of bars, lounges, excellent restaurants.

Not bad, but I think halfway across town.

Check out Marche next to Hockey Hall of Fame, which I think is near your location.

NOT halfway across town (I live a block away and it's at most 5-6 blocks from the royal york). Do you actually mean burrito boyz? That's what it used to be called but I only go to the adelaide location now (I heard they split). It's also very hard to find, as it's essentially in an underground closet. I would go to the one on adelaide just west of simcoe. Right above it is an intense poutinerie (don't know the name) in which you can get anything from pork to nachos on your fries.

Steak - Canyon Creek on front, great little place.
Sit down pizza - Il Fornello's at King and Simcoe has GREAT pizza and it's pretty cheap

If you're at the royal york, walk up to King street and walk west 3-4 blocks and you'll see a TON of restaurants, all of which are great.

Also, if you're in town between July 3 - 19, check out summerlicious. Specialty menus at some top restaurants for great prices.

For chinese food, check out szechuan szechuan in First Canadian Place. If you sit down you order platter style.

If you talk to ANYONE who works in an office downtown, they will all know burrito boyz and szechuan szechuan.

Barbarians sucks... Mortons is miles ahead on food quality if you want posh steakhouse. If you want reasonable price steak house, try Tulip @ Queen and Coxwell.

OP what kind of food are you looking for?

I'm going to be there in August so I'll miss the summerlicious...too bad sounds great! I'm looking for any food type, I eat everything almost :p I'm thinking for one night of extravagance I'll hit the canoe restaurant and bar, but will need some great lunch places and casual dining places for the other nights.

I've been reading reviews about Barbarians....and they're not good, so sdifox you've confirmed it for me, I won't go there! :p Oh and Hi Mosh, sorry didn't quote ya! :)
