They rerouted power, but we aren't sure how long we are going to have it.

Strong T-Storms are coming through Central and Northern VA.

They were tracking a funnel cloud to the west of us. My family and I went down into the basement. Looking out the window it wasn't that bad then all of a sudden you couldn't even see outside the window. You could see an occasional leaf (out of the many) fly by.

Afterwards we went outside. Small debris picked up and thrown everywhere. Power line snapped in half. Ditches overflowing the storm drains and going onto the driveway.

The other cell is coming right for us (Fredericksburg, VA) and the rest of Northern/Central VA. We have about 30 minutes until it get here, and it is supposed to be even worse than the first.

Hope everyone is ok :-

I'll post as long as we have power.

Thats insane. The neighborhood next to ours just had some hail and stuff. We were the only one that got the wind in our immediate surroundings. It was crazy.

Car windows blown out is ridiculous though!

I don't want to hear this... I'm in southeastern PA. I hope it just stays a simple thunderstorm and we don't get any of that other nastiness.

This year has made that "Day After Tomorrow" movie sound a little more reasonable.

Haha yea. Whew the Tornado warning just expired. We are now under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:45. Then we have a break before the next cell I think.

According to the news and stuff its pretty standard number of tornados, last 2 years were good, but historically speaking we are a little above average, but deffinitely not at the extreme so far.

So the weather channel just said that was indeed a tornado that ran right over our house. Thankfully it was a weak one. Unfortunately we have a Tornado Watch until 1AM. My sisters wont get much sleep tonight, which means I'm going to have to be up keeping everyone calm.

Haven't lost power yet-- so thats good...

PICS!

You fool!

PICS! I've seen 3 tornadoes form right over me, it's amazing. Did you get the green/bubbly sky? There was one where the clouds literally looked like they were boiling, but upside down.

We were down in the basement. If I were upstairs, I would have. My best description is just seeing everything outside start flying around with the rain being so dense that you can't see more than a few inches.

I've seen Severe before but this was completely different. Interesting (I didn't think so at the time lol)

Global climate change? *tinfoil hat*

Tornadoes are seen every year, and plenty of them too. Nothing abnormal about having a few.

OP, glad that it seems to have passed without too much damage. That's good. Amazing you still have power too!

Yeah that's what I was going to say. Are your power cables under ground by chance? The ones in my neighborhood are and we almost never lose power, even in the roughest of weather.

Stay safe!

You could always move to California, as we rarely get tornadoes here. However, the price of housing is ridiculous...

Mammatus clouds. I have a pic of those from a few years ago somewhere.

The ones in the neighborhood are under ground. There are lines on the roads surrounding the neighborhood that are above ground. Somehow the just rerouted power from the one that was down (Left only the one house without power).

Looks like most of the bad stuff is over - hopefully. We still have power. Just regular storms over head for the time being right now.

I worked in the Central Park shopping center one summer, several years ago. Worst friggin' storms I've ever experienced. I don't know why, but here in Richmond it's almost never as bad... it's not like we're that far away.

I was at work in Roslynn for most of it. Relatively clear sky with no precipitation at 1:30 when I got lunch, but I could hear it start storming shortly after. Couldn't really get much of an impression from where I was in the office. I did see a stop light nearby that was out but we never lost power.

At 7:30 when I walked to the gym across the street it was pretty much over, just drizzle.

At 8:45 when I was driving home it was still just drizzle mostly, but I ran across two sections of the road with about 5" or more of standing water, kinda scary driving through.

I left work early due to a power outage and it's still without power. Off tomorrow? Stay tuned!

All I know is it was freaky. My girl still yells at me for hearing the sirens going off and my ass is outside to look at the weather.

I think it is a guy thing. Everyone I talked to outside did the same thing-- I love being a man :)
