Torn with what to do about work...

Here's my situation in a nutshell: I started working for this company 2 months ago. Initially I interviewed for the Sales Assistant position, but they chose someone else and offered me an inside sales position instead. Well, things didn't work out with that sales assistant so they gave me the sales assistant position and hired someone else for inside sales. The inside sales person left due to family reasons, so they gave me the option to transfer to inside sales.

Here are the details:

Sales Assistant:
Currently I make $11.50/hour with the employment agency, but this should be going up anywhere between $1-2. I get 40 hours a week. I enter orders, schedule things to be manufactured, and collect balances. The last long term girl that was doing this was here for 5+ years.

Inside Sales:
Maxes out at $11.50/hour, plus 2% commission. They mainly browse the internet, email leads and talk on the phone (not often though). There's the option to travel 3-5 times a year, and I can come in at 7 A.M. and leave by 3 P.M. With the sales assistant job I'm here from 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. and can't leave early. Inside sales gives you leads, and the person who has been here for a few years makes about $900/month commission. I spoke to him and he said it took him a while to get to that point, but it is possible.

Right now off of $11.50/hour I'm able to deposit about half of my paychecks into savings. I'm going to school and only plan on staying here for about 2 years, because I don't think I want to work full time while going to Law School. I'm turning 23 soon with no kids or anyone to support (other than pets...haha)

What would you guys do? I'm torn. I can see the pro's and con's of both, but can't decide.

If by "They mainly browse the internet, email leads and talk on the phone (not often though)" meaning that its a pretty easy low work job most of the time. I say exercise caution. getting into a position like that could have a negative impact on your productivity in future jobs (get used to the cushy).

Other than that, Id go with the 7-3 one if traffic\commute is an issue.

I would flip a coin. Then I'd realize I hadn't assigned values to a side yet, so I'd flip the coin again. Then I'd ignore what the coin said and knuckle down and pick one.

From your description, it sounds like you'd rather do the inside sales position. Personally, I'd never want to do inside sales, but that's me. If you're cut out for it, do it.

The second one is more of a performance based job, you see money that equates to your own performance. If you want to be in a position like that, then the second one. The first one is more of a "sure thing" and won't fluctuate in take home money.

I can do inside sales...I'm just torn which one would be the more "responsible" one to do.

Traffic isn't an issue...there's no traffic with my current hours.

I'm thinking traveling 3-5 times a year for 3-4 days at a time would probably interfere with my school, right? I've never gone to school and had business trips before.

Since this is just a short term job, just take the one with the schedule that fits you best.

That's the thing that has me torn the most. If I was planning on staying here for many years I would stcik with what I have, but I'm thinking why not travel in the next 2 years?

I would go with inside sales. Better hours, more interaction with people, potential to make more money.
