torn between two cars...so here's a poll!

I'm torn between getting a used low mileage (10k-15k miles) Nissan 350z or a brand new 06-07 Subaru WRX. I live in New Jersey, so if I get the 350z i'd have to keep my current car ('99 civic) for winters.

The car will remain stock (defi gauges going in the WRX if I get that, but that's it). What would you get?

I just need it to be fun I guess...i'm insanely bored of my civic and since I just landed a new job I can finally reward myself. I could always buy a more expensive car but I really want to save money for a house too...

WRX for two practical reasons. One is the winter, two is the insurance on 2 cars (the z and the winter beater) vs one.

And a bonus hint: It's best to not buy a used sports car. Most often, it have have been driven like a sports car by it's previous owner. In other words, the drive train will have been thrashed quite a bit.

BTW, I prefer the z. But that's an emotional opinion, and not practical for your situation.

I'd go 350Z... My buddy has a WRX.. blah car.
350Z = power slide 😛

I'm a big fan of RWD, way more fun than AWD in my opinion. And stock for stock, a 350Z is faster. (unless you mod the WRX)

It depends on how much you drive and how long you want to keep the car. If you drive a lot, it may be worth keeping the civic to prevent putting a lot of miles on your nice new(er) car.

Which is the whole point in buying one. They can take it. People worry way to much about that.

I'd go with the Z but in your case I can understand going with the WRX. I don't like 4 doors and the WRX isn't exactly a pretty car but they are peppy and handle fairly well. Depending on your age keeping the civic around with liability only insurance on it might only cost you a couple hundred a year.

4 doors is a plus and the AWD for the snow is a definite bonus.

If you are trying to save for a house try and find one used. 99% of cars depreciate instead appreciate.

Remember more millionares drive cheap cars and the people driving the fancy cars are more likely the ones spending as much as they make.

Just thinking about the fun aspect, the 350x doesn't seem all that fun to me. It looks cool, so it would be good for driving around looking cool I guess. It also would be nice to look at, if that is fun for you. It might make you feel better about yourself, if you need that. As far as fun while driving, I don't see much prospect of that unless you think getting lots of points on your record is fun.

WRX on the other hand looks like it would be fun to drive, even in sort of legal ways. And a blast in winter, I'm sure.

But if I were young, I might rather have a Mini Cooper instead of either of those.

350 is more fun. RWD+good power+V6+not fugly+Oversteer

WRX is more practical. 5 seater+4doors+AWD+boring slight understeer.

of course the oversteer/understeer issue shouldnt be a problem until you get on a track(if you drive legally)

WRX.

Seems more practical and then you can ditch that Civic and either get some money or at least reduce your car insurance payments for dropping it.

i don't know what they are like to actually drive, but i was driven around the LA area in a WRX for a weekend, and that thing is perfect for heavy traffic. cut, thrust, cut, thrust, ZOOM, cut, thrust. anyway, i was pretty impressed. the 350Z rubs me the wrong way on principle: that's an SUV frame you're driving there. everything about it is overengineered for sports car purposes, and you pay for that on the scale.

well the 350z is a much nicer car imho. can't you get the non-convertible version such as this one? then you would have a nice car and be able to drive it in the winter,
