these two boards are roughly the same price and i can't decide:

Chaintech FX71 GeForce FX 5600 Ultra
Abit Siluro fx5600 ultra otes

which do you think will overclock the most with it's cooling system, loudness is not a concern ????

why would you recommend an ati card to me ??

i've read the anandtech fall reviews and the 5600 ultra performs just as good if not better than the 9600 pro in new games
also i like the nvidia driver support (good linux drivers)

give me some good arguments ?

btw this is replacing a ti4200 8x 128mb bga overclocked, like 1800 3dmark2k3 scores

I think that's a huge waste of money for replacing a ti4200. You wont get noticeable performance gains in todays games, and tomorrows games will run like a$$ on anything short of a 9800 or 5900

So I say either spend more, or my real recommendation is dont upgrade now because you dont need to. Wait for the next gen of cards.

Half Life 2.

There is one hell of a compelling argument to pick ATi over nVidia this go-round.

"We can?t recommend the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra because NVIDIA has already indicated that NV36 (the 5600 Ultra?s successor) will be here shortly to replace it and should offer significantly greater performance. So if you?re looking to buy a video card right now, ATI is the way to go."

ohhh wow a new nvidia card
i might just wait if it is coming in the next month

i'm tempting myself to buy 500 bucks in new parts, which would give me 4 working systems, even tho i've spent a few thousand already in the past few months....

i should prob just wait

Do you use Linux near half the time you use Windows or is it your primary OS? It is true that Nvidia is far ahead of ATI when it comes to Linux, so get Nvidia if you do indeed use linux a lot.

now i'm kinda thinking about getting something slower than my GF4 just to save money, then i'll wait and upgrade after x-mas

anyone have any recommendations on a 50 to 65 dollar nvidia video card ??

How about a GF4 MX440? Cheap, you already have the drivers installed, and can run a game now or then.

yeah i was kinda wanting to stray away from the MX stuff

like GF2, GF3 ti200, or GF4 something not MX
unless you think i should just say what the hell and pick up an MX and call it a day ?

what do you guy's think about the slower xabre 200 ??

also are radeon 9200 cards dx9 capable, and do they outperform the 8500 accross the board ??
is the 9200 a good deal for 60 bucks ?

ok my GF says she wants a radeon cause she never had one before so i guess the 9200 is starting to look pretty good now

the last video card she owned was a GF2 mx400 on a 400mhz P2 system, so i think this card will be nice for her

edit: ok i'm gonna go brush up on some benchmarks but this card is only like 65 bucks at newegg:
APOLLO DEVIL MONSTER 3 ATI RADEON 9200 128MB DDR DVI/TV-out AGP

hmmm maybe i'll get an fx 5200
they are pretty cheap and are dx9 compat
newegg's site seems to be having issues as it won't allow me to look at products

well it will have dx9 support and almost perform as good as a ti4200 for just 65 bucks
that can't be too much of a waste of money
