Torn between 2 different GTX 970 cards, advice?

So i'm about to upgrade my GTX 660 to a new GTX 970. I've narrowed it down to either the Asus Strix or the MSI Gaming 4G model.

Pros and cons for both?

The Strix does have a metal backplate which i like. But both look like nice cards.

They are both pretty comparable, however I'm not a fan of what I've been reading about ASUS's support regarding RMA and such. I'd probably go for the MSI myself.

That was my concern as well. I've heard that MSI's support is better.

High quality problem, as you've chosen 2 of the very best 970 cards.

Can't really go wrong with either. I lean towards the Asus due to it's very quiet operation. I love MSI GPU coolers.

I'd go MSI and have no qualms is you need to RMA, that being said i've had good experience with Asus RMA.

Vote for MSI here too. Had the MSI 970 Gaming, it was well built. I'd do MSI simply because of the RMA issues with ASUS.

The MSI is cooler, quieter, faster, and smaller.

The Asus uses a bit less power.

At current prices, it isn't even a close call.

Thanks, i was leaning towards the MSI, ordered the Gaming 4G model from Amazon!

Nice! You will enjoy the upgrade. It's 100% faster than the GTX660. That's really the ideal jump to totally change your gaming experience.

I think Msi is better because it provides better cooling

I would get the MSI just for the awesome heatsink, and looks like it can run nice and quiet with teh right setup. . What I do is take off the stock fans, and replace them with a slow 120mm fan. This not only make the card cooler, but also a lot quieter. I tend to sell my cards when I get new ones, so then I put the stock fan back on, when I sell it, and it like a brand-new card. The last one, I sold to a friend, and he tried it with both the stock Twin II frozer fans vs a slow 120 mm fan (my way), and he ended up doing it my way as well. The only con is that it makes it a 3 slot card. Never a problem with heat in the case as long as you have a an exhaust fan (can be slow and quiet as well).

Thanks for all the input guys. I did order the MSI GTX 970 from Amazon already. It'll be here Tuesday. I'll let you know how i like it then.

Card arrived today at work. Installed it tonight and WOW. Super silent, solid construction, and fast as hell!!

Amazing video card! (MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G OC) 🙂
