Since this was part of Prime Minister Harper's platform and some fundamentalist Christians have reportedly a preferential pipeline to his office, let's get this thing voted on, soundly defeated and turn the page once and for all. We don't want it to reappear every 15 years (frequency of Tories getting power ;)) like a Quebec sovereignty referendum.

Agree, get it over with, drop it, and 30 years from now people will just think we're all kooks for even discussing it negatively.

Agreed over and done, but like abortion or capital punishment I don't think this issue will go away in 30 yrs its a morals based argument

The issue will go away.

Increasingly, gays are being viewed as normal people, worthy of all the same rights, responsibilities, and privileges as everyone else. The arguments against same-sex marriage (that the sanctity of marriage is violated, that marriage is intended for child-rearing) are transparently vapid and cannot be sustained.

The majorities opposing same-sex marriage are shrinking; in the coming years they will become shrinking minorities. 50 years from now those opposed to same-sex marriage will be viewed as wackos.

I'll buy 50 yrs, cause it takes 3 generations to affect social change , 30 is still short a time frame.
