Crossfit WOD was Helen

3 rounds
400M Run
21 Kettlebell Swings
12 Pull-Ups

Due to the sweat inducing nature of the workout, my hands were slipping on the bar and I tore a callous.

Anyone know a good remedy / prevention routine? Not really into this being a regular occurrence...

Roll your hand into the bar away from you first so that you pre-stretch the skin and aren't compressing the callouses so that they can tear in the first place.

The downtime might help delay your first SLAP tear.

Try drying your hands, using powder between pullup reps? Don't push through slipping of your hands on the bar, a torn callous is the least of your worries if you are pushing into dangerous territory by not having your hands secure.

Chalk? I've never had an issue with a callous tearing getting in the way of a workout. Sometimes heavy deadlifts will cause them to rip but it's easy enough to work through. As you lift more they'll get stronger and more smooth, I know it doesn't make a lot of sense but my callouses are barely noticeable anymore, just a small rough patch rather than big nasty raised rough callouses. Some people have suggested filing them down and lots of lotion when you're not lifting to help soften them up a little making them less likely to tear. Just google "callus care crossfit" and you'll find tons of decent information.

I own this as well. Though I have not used it on my hands, I play a ton of tennis and run a lot, so my feet are basically a complete disaster. This thing has been great about removing calluses on the balls and heels of my feet as well as the side of my big toes. Be careful when you first start out to not get deep enough to hit fresh skin - that could ruin your day. I would highly recommend it if you're battling with bad calluses.
