Steam midweek madness, Torchlight II 75% off

http://store.steampowered.com/app/200710/

I put off buying this game for a long time. Finally one weekend my grandkids said they wanted a new game, TL II just happened to be on sale, so I bought it.

Man oh man, I should have bought it a long time ago.

One major drawback, there is no dedicated server or matchmaking like what blizzard has with the diablo series. TL II felt like a 1990s game with its lack of matchmaking. When you buy a modern game, you expect modern features. The original diablo in the late 1990s had dedicated servers and chatrooms. I see no reason why torchlight II had to regress 15 years of gaming progress.

Besides the lack of dedicated servers, TL II is great for lan games and playing with friends.

My grandkids and I played for close to two hours. We had a blast.

I loved TL2, it was much better then Diablo 3. I wonder why Runic never came out with a expansion for it? Anyone know what Runic Games is working on currently?

Not a regression, just not a massive company like Blizzard to be able to afford and run that kind of server base I guess.

And yeah, the modding MORE than makes up for that minor drawback imo.

I finished TL 1 but drifted away from TL 2 before finishing it. It wasn't bad, it just didn't hook me the way TL 1 and Titan Quest did.

I was playing solo, it sounds like co-op is more fun.

Yea, agreed. I finished TLII, but my computer crashed and lost the saves. It was an OK game, but personally I preferred Diablo 3, sorry if that sounds like heresy. I guess I just have trouble getting past the cartoony graphics, and while the game is fun for a while, it just seems to go on and on. Worse, on my replay, I am stuck toward the end in those stupid teleporter levels and cant seem to get out, even though I have killed all the monsters. On this second playthrough, I used a bunch of mods, perhaps that glitched the game. I was playing solo as well, I am sure it would be more fun co-op.

Of the three games mentioned though, Titan Quest would be my favorite.

If I remember correctly, Torchlight 2 has a pretty strong selection of content in the Steam Workshop, too.

Definitely a very good game.

If I cared to mod this, it could be interesting. But I like achievements :-O , so I was never interested in that.

I greatly prefer Diablo 3 over this. However, it has a place. It's not a bad game at all. It's just not what I go to when I want to click on monsters until they die.
