For Immediate Release: Torchlight available on Steam beginning October 27th.

Steam users, rejoice! No more waiting for Torchlight: Runic Games Inc, developer of the Action-RPG Torchlight, is thrilled to announce their new agreement with Steam, allowing players to download Torchlight on the first day it?s available, October 27th.

Previously, and as formerly announced at PAX, Torchlight would be in limited release through the Official site www.torchlightgame.com and through Perfect World?s portal on October 27, with download capability on Steam only available 30 days later.

?It?s important for us to make Torchlight as widely available as possible. Steam is an enormous outlet that many players use exclusively ? we?re big fans ourselves ? so we are really happy that it will be on Steam starting day one,? says CEO Max Schaefer.

Torchlight will be available for digital download on October 27th, through Steam and www.torchlightgame.com.

For those that don't know, Torchlight is the successor to the stillborn Mythos (which Mythos will actually exist as well, but being completed by a different developer for better or worse, and likely never seeing the light of day in the US).

Think Diablo, on steroids with a side of meth.

Doesn't seem very appealing.

No, really - if I recall correctly it's pretty much a dungeon crawler like Diablo, same style, same theme sort of thing. But they also have a wide open world like traditional MMOs where everybody is in the world along with you, not like some lobby system crap.

Torchlight is single player only.

It's successor will be a multiplayer version, but it wont be out for a year or more.

Oh, well then, my bad. Now that you mention it, this vaguely sounds like the new developer release strategy for this team. Still... should be fun.

I like the look and price of this game, should be interesting to see it when it drops. I loved the Diablos and Titan Quest.

The only downside I see to this game is that from what I understand this version is singleplayer only. These types of games beg for a small coop group, and even for $20, I could see me playing it for half an hour and then wanting to jump into Titan Quest to play with other people.

Still, hope it does well for them. I have no real interest in the MMO version coming next year, but hopefully this will sell well enough to finance it for them.

Mythos was (is?) a fantastic game. Torchlight looks to carry on the torch (no pun intended). It will be sad to have no multiplayer at all in it, but I fully understand where the devs are coming on this one.
They will be getting my money on the day of release no question.

It is kind of odd that it doesn't have multiplayer, since Mythos was a test game for network code in Hellgate.

But they lost all of that and had to start a new game from scratch.

I'm buying this because

a) Runic Games, as I known them as Flagship Seattle, are an awesome group that I want to support
b) Although single player (and the only draw of Mythos to me was the online play) it looks like fun to play with, plus they are releasing mod tools!
c) Maybe owners will a chance at the MMO version's closed beta like Mythos :D

One thing Flagship had said about Hellgate London was they were a new studio developing an entirely new game from scratch and it was too ambitious. So I think Runic sees this as a stepping stone to a full-fledged Torchlight and it makes sense to get some $$ rolling in to support development.

I don't really, I would easily pay an extra $5-$10 for some sort of MP component, even if it was implemented after the fact.

I may still grab it on Steam at some point, I got 2 games on Steam already pre-ordered and Uncharted 2 to plow through though.

Presale up on steam now, 10% off.
Just curious, does anyone know if the MMO version going to be pay to play like world of warcraft?

I'm not sure they have announced too much about it but if I recall they did say there planned to have it similar to the Mythos model - free to play with microtransactions for special items and such, but not so much items that makes paying players have a significant advantage over free players.

The MMO is planned to be micro transactions but anything can change in 18 months.

Pre-ordered.

Looked amazing on that trailer that came out recently. Seems to be a sort of Diablo 2 hack & Slash meets NoX slightly cartoony RPG type game.

Less serious on the story, more focused on fun and addictive gameplay.
