Torchlight 3

BFG10K

Anyone got it yet? I never buy games at release so I might pick it up on sale after it's fully patched. I watched a few reviews and the characters look interesting, plus the graphics look really nice. I usually like playing ranged bow/shooting characters in ARPGs.

The first Torchlight was awesome: very simple mechanics, nice graphics, and pleasant gameplay.
The second game was pretty good too, though the last dungeon was a grind. Also it was a bit strange how an Outlander was stronger with Glaive + wands rather than using guns.

I like how the series has selectable difficulty levels independent of game runs.

Very much enjoyed TL1 & 2. but my understanding of TL3 is that it is a sort of failback from its original free-to-play MMO format and that there are some substantial departures from the first two games of the series.

I'm taking the cautious wait and see approach with the game to see how the whole thing shakes out and how much monetization and other garbage are in the game.

I haven't tried the game, but I have been very tempted to pick it up. I have heard some... overall mixed feelings about the game. The game started off as Torchlight Frontiers, which was going to be a free-to-play game, but given the overall negative backlash that they received from testers, they switched to the paid model that we have now. However, I've heard remarks that some of the legacy of being a free-to-play game still exist, which include aspects such as simpler, larger UIs that suggest a mobile focus.

However, I've also heard that the game is fun. I was listening to Vulkan's video on the game's release today, and he seemed to enjoy it with reservations on the lack of boss diversity. He did mention that the game has some sort of fort building mechanic that is apparently deep enough for people to create interesting things (he mentioned mazes and holiday-themed housing).

Didnt even know it was out until a couple of days ago when I happened to see it on Steam. I liked the first 2 games and was immediately tempted to pick up TL3. Reviews are pretty mixed on Steam though, so I am still thinking about it. Probably will wait till the game is more refined and is cheaper.

i played the old Fate series way back, and TL1. didn't bother with 2 as it felt too cartoony and arcadey, and i've watched an hour of gameplay of TL3 on youtube.
i don't think i'll play this as i already play Path of Exile almost full time.

It's getting some really bad reviews all over and a few friends of mine who were huge Torchlight 2 addicts say it's a massive letdown and all of the mobile-game nonsense is accurate. I might finally reinstall Torchlight 2 and give it a try since I couldn't push myself to play past the snowy area (was too slow and boring).
