TL 1 was more fun for me, but TL 2 is worth at least $5.

I own TL 1 but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. From your experience, it seems like I can just have my fun with TL 1 and not worry about TL 2? Or do the two games complement each other, like does the story continue and it's like a nice sequel to answer unanswered questions from the first game, should you play both instead of just TL 1?

I just started TL1 and haven't played TL2 but from what I hear the biggest upgrade is that TL1 is single player only while TL2 is co-op. That coupled with better graphics and new characters, I can't speak to the change in the story/gameplay though.

The story for both is very slight -- "kill foozle". They are both pure action loot-fest click-fest games like Diablo 1. Not that there's anything wrong with that :)

The story isn't anywhere near as complex as even Borderlands 2, so the fact that TL 2 has a couple of sentences mentioning events in TL 1 doesn't mean much.

The graphics are stylized, so while TL 2 might have attack effects that are a little more fancy it's not a huge jump.

I'm in but I still want something like TL2 but darker and less cartoony. Like Diablo 1 or 2.

Try Path of Exile-totally free, currently in open beta but pretty bug free and has a large, nice community of players. A godsend for us D2 addicts.

Beat TL1 (well actually, couldn't beat the damn boss).

TL2 (I have played many hours of it) is a lot bigger and I find that I get lost and retrace paths all the time.

Would not say TL2 is really any more fun, just a little more varied environments and it support multiplayer. TL1 is just fine if you only want to play SP.
