"He has probably slipped into Pakistan'' says spokesman for the Northern Alliance.

I guess it was too much to hope that we would find him at such an obvious place, but I'm still very disappointed. :(

Edit: So far, I have only seen Reuters as being the source of this. Therefore, I am going to say that there is a possibility that it is untrue. Hence, the title change.

Link to BBC Also based on Reuters report, however.

Edit2: See below for new info.

he can run but he can't hide.

so much for bin laden being brave. yeah, right.

i just hope the new prime minister karzai doesn't allow mullah blowmar to get off. that is what they are saying, omar is cutting a deal that will let him go unpunished. i don't think we're going to stand for that. that's ok, some us sniper will put a bullet in his head, hopefully.

I have heard that too, I'm hoping that it isn't true. We've made it perfectly clear that we want his head on a stick.

I just thought of something: What's the possibility that he's been hiding in the United States for months? :Q:Q:Q

The Russians were unable to capture Tora Bora in the 10 years they occupied Afghanistan.

Yet the Northern Alliance captures Tora Bora in 2 months??

Something just doesn't sound right...

I dunno about you but the situation is a little different here...yeah there has been some fighting but almost the majority of the terrority taken has been because of enemy forces retreating or giving it up. This is a little different here than the soviet incursion into afghanistan many years ago when it was literally everyone in afghanistan vs the soviets including US and other foreign help. This is the US and allies vs the puny taliban and rag tag al qaeda fighters...did i mention the "US"....? :)

Yzzim, it's a different time + an entirely different scenario.

Laden could be anywhere but I feel he hasn't been in Afghan for quite some time. Iran or Iraq most likely but who knows?

That's what i've been thinking for a while now. I mean no one would ever expect that, and he could easily hide his identity fairly well, where no cilvilian would easily recongize him. But of course it has been "said" that he has been spotted in Afgahnistan over the past month. hmm...

Probably true. A New York Times article yesterday (Thursday) said that the mountain passes from Tora Bora to Pakistan are now blocked by snow. I guess he would have had to have left before that happened, despite the rumor that he had been spotted some time last week near Tora Bora.

Edit: If he's on the move, he's bound to cross the path of someone who likes the idea of $25 million in their pocket. At least I hope so.

In a Country where people face possible starvation because they are so poor, it's very possible that Bin Laden could buy his way out of that Country easily.

I'd like to hope they'd help us find him...they've been very cooperative up to this point

bomberman,
ha. just you wait. Pakistan is no less a snake now than it was when it planted the Taliban as control of Afghanistan.

Just saw on Fox News that the Pentagon has dismissed this report, and fighting continues in Tora Bora. I still hold a little hope that bin Laden is there. :D

can someone explain to me the logic behind wanting to kill mullah omar and all the taliban?

and then explain how this could be done in congruence with international law (as stipulated by the UN)?

or have people in general just simplified the situation to -

us vs. them

in which bin laden = el qaeda = taliban = mullah omar = terrorist = iraq = bad guys that we wanna kill?

The caves and tunnels in Tora bora extend for miles. There is NO way that the Northern Alliance has taken control of them yet, especially considering that they're still outside fighting and not even inside the tunnels yet.

What that Geraldo reporting that? Geraldo has lost his damn mind. A month ago he is in the studio hosting Rivera Live, now he is in Afghanistan, all dirty looking, denying he had been captured by Taliban forces. I swear he eats this stuff up.

Let me try to simplify this for you. Bin Laden is a terrorist, the Al Qaeda is a terrorist organization which he founded, Mullah Omar is the leader of the Taliban, the Taliban is a repressive regime that refused to turn over Al Qaeda and Bin Laden (and basically told us to go stuff ourselves), Iraq is led by a dictator who is trying to build weapons of mass destruction, bad guys are bad.

Need any more elaboration? :p

I'm not sure who made the report, one of the regular newscasters gave out the info.

Geraldo loves the attention. I think he's been reporting in every major war since he was pubescent. It would be hard to prevent him from this one.

<< can someone explain to me the logic behind wanting to kill mullah omar and all the taliban? >>

Killing is fine by me but neutralizing works, too whether that's imprisionment or something else. He's a tyrant, dicator, co-conspirator to terrorism and all around threat to world peace. Why make the mistake of allowing him to continue on with his dark work?
