Topic for opinionated essay

I'm currently writing an essay about a computer-related topic for my computer science course. I'd like some input as to what I should make it about? In regards to the criteria, I'd like it to be controversial and interesting (not about the latest R580 chipset or the Ageia PhysX card or Vista or crap like that).

freedom of speech on the internet - like that German law that holds moderators responsible for what's posted on a forum, FBI subpoenas, NAMBLA...
Marketing, ads, spyware, and spyware blockers...what's reasonable? What's over the line? Is it fair to block ads on a site paid by them? Is it fair to clog a customer's computer with adware if they agree to your EULA?

How about: The internet: Friend or foe?

Topics for the plus: communication, spread of knowledge, massive lowering of prices and availability of items to buy, forming new relationships, instant news, cheap buinesses.
Negatives: Online scams, viruses, privacy issues, bullying (star wars kid), children having easy access to porn/indecent sites/ogrish, child abuse, poor health of people sitting in front of the PC 15 hours per day.
