Many on this site don't want to hear two sides of any story, so if you are one of those, tune out now.

I use many different products in the shop, as it's part of my job, and I research lots of items, which is also my job. It is sometimes fruitful, and cahnges my mind, and sometimes doesn't, but one thing is certain, I learn something new.

Except for toothpaste, Dan just updated it in April. Freaky..... Too bad nobody has tested some of the high temp aircraft lubes used in the turbines. That stuff is from hell, and never drys out.

Big problem is that is that it would probably dry out in a very short period of time (hours) as the cooling benefit comes from a very, very thin application (because its water-based and not made to actually stay around so it squishes out very easily allowing more core to actually touch heatsink).

Read a very good scientific explaination that someone posted here why there should only be as much as 1C difference between any of the thermal compounds in correct application. The science of it made sense to me, so what it said to me is that there is a big variance in how we all apply thermal compound and that makes more difference than the compound.

I imagine if you could treat water with some kind of water wetter (to make it adhere to other surfaces better) and could manage to seal the treated water between the core and heatsink so it couldn't evaporate, it would make a very good thermal compound because it mostly gets out of the way completely and would fill in the voids as that is all we really want in a thermal compound.

If some manufacturer could figure out a way to make a very thin compound that mostly squishes out, but seals so it won't suffer from pump out (as all compounds that are too thin do), then they would be on to something good.
